At the start of 2009 Bangor looked to be heading for a healthy finish to their first season back in the top flight. However the financial pressures and workload of the playing in the Premiership were proving to be an overwhelming burden on the club and the announcement that the club would not be re-applying for a Domestic License in January rocked the whole Irish League.

Marty Quinn and his coaching staff departed for Glenavon and Reserve Team Manager John Bailie took over in a caretaker role. Colin McCurdy and Norman Kelly came in to steady the ship until the end of the 08/09 season. Bangor drifted down to a disappointing 11th place finish.

Colin McCurdy accepted the role of manager over the summer of 2009 and Bangor began a re-building process both on and off the field.

Bangor started 2008 with a fairly healthy position in the 1st Division, but a series of poor results saw the departure of manager Paul Millar in April. John Bailie stood in as caretaker manager for the final match of the 2007/08 season.

A new criteria based re-structuring of the League saw Bangor elevated to the new IFA Premiership in May 2008. Marty Quinn was appointed as the new Bangor manager and the club were soon top of the 2008/09 Premiership after 2 matches. The club looked to be heading for a successful first season in the top flight, but there was bad news lurking round the corner in 2009.....
