BANGOR 1-3 LISBURN DISTILLERY
An injury struck Bangor side went down 3-1 to Lisburn Distillery at
a rain soaked Clandeboye Park this evening. Bangor, who were without Dean Youle,
Jim McMenamin, Daley Carnduff, Ryan Mann, and Chris Boyd were forced to call on
several Distillery players to fill out the squad.
Distillery opened brightly and Neal Gawley scored the opener after just 5 minutes. Bangor got more of a foothold on the game as the half wore on and Glen Upton broke free on the half hour to grab an equaliser. Mark Magennis struck the Distillery woodwork with a 25 yard free kick before Chris Kingsberry put the Whites ahead just before half-time. Gary Thompson sealed Distillery's victory with a second half header while Bangor's best chance of the second half came when Mark Magennis saw his speculative shot from all of 45 yards come back off the Distillery crossbar. The Seasiders injury concerns were deepened in the second half when defender Stephen Whiteside left the field clutching his shoulder after falling awkwardly in a challenge with Darren Armour. Bangor Ladies, the ladies section of Bangor Football Club, secured the Coca
Cola 3rd Division championship following a gritty 1-0 victory over their nearest
geographical neighbours and division 3 rivals 1st Bangor (Ards), tonight (30th)
at The Drome Playing Fields, Newtownards.
Carolyn Scott stole in unmarked at
the back post in the 75th minute to lash in the decisive goal. The result puts the Ladies an untouchable 7 points clear, with only two games left.

GLEN UPTON - SCORER OF BANGOR'S FIRST GOAL
A youthful Bangor side came very close to snatching a draw against a strong
Linfield team at Clandeboye Park this evening.
Jamie Mulgrew fired Linfield ahead in the 14th minutes when he slotted home a Curtis Allen cross from the right. The Seasiders drew level in the 57th minute when Glen Upton nodded in a the back post. Linfield were ahead again four minutes later when Jamie Mulgrew's shot crept in at Gareth Maguire's right hand post. New signing Kris Hunter stole in from the right to make it 2-2 with just 12 minutes remaining. Bangor hit the Linfield woodwork in the closing minutes, but a well struck Jim Ervin penalty, awarded for a foul on Mulgrew in the 88th minute made the final score 3-2 to Linfield. sunshine on Ashfield's 3G
pitch in East Belfast this afternoon.
A sweet strike from midfielder Daley Carnduff from the edge of the
area gave Bangor the lead in the 43rd minute, but Groomsport levelled matters
ten minutes into the second half when a lofted ball into the area was bundled

Bangor Ladies, the ladies section of Bangor Football Club, reinforced their
status at the pinnacle of the Coca Cola 3rd Division league table following a
magnificent 7 goal victory over visitors Rossglass County, on Tuesday (21st)
night at Bloomfield Road Playing Fields, a result which put them 7 points clear.
As a bonus, for the second successive week, the Sammy Mellon sponsored side posted a clean sheet with an impressive defensive display at the back and leg sapping performance in midfield. Goals from Savage 2, Lee, Armstrong, Scott and McAteer (pictured) mean the unbeaten Seasiders will have the opportunity of wrapping up the divisional championship next Thursday (30th). The Seasiders face their nearest geographical rivals, and second in the table - 1st Bangor (Ards), also unbeaten - in what is a derby showdown for the title.

Bangor ran out 4-1 winners in an entertaining pre-season friendly against
Sirocco Works at Wilgar Park today.
After surviving a couple of early scares, Bangor took the lead on 23 minutes when Andy Morrow fired a pinpoint shot from the edge of the area into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Morrow found the net again five minutes later when he headed home a deep cross from Mark Magennis. Sirocco made it 2-1 from the penalty spot early in the second half, but Gary Brown tapped in a perfect cross from Andy Rosbotham on the hour to restore Bangor's two goal advantage. Andy Morrow bustled his way through the Sirocco defence in the closing minutes to completed his hat-trick and make the final score 4-1 to Bangor. the ladies section of Bangor Football Club, went on the rampage on Wednesday
(15th) evening at Dunleath Playing Fields, Downpatrick, combining to compound a
stylish 0-9 triumph over Ballyvange Ladies.
The Sammy Mellon sponsored club, have now opened up a clear four point lead, with only four games left in their 2009 divisional campaign. The deadly duo, who have struck an incredible thirty one times so far this season in the league, smashing all the club's previous goalscoring records are spearheading Bangor Ladies charge at the top of the Coca Cola 3rd Division table. The Seasiders, are on course for their highest ever finish in their NIWFA history with a record breaking 28 points on the board so far - but will be looking to add to this, next Tuesday against Rossglass, at Bloomfield Road, Bangor.

Towering central defender Jim McMenamin penned a new deal with the club for the 2009/10 season. Big Jim made 30 starting apperances for the Seasiders last season and scored 1 goal. Mark Magennis came close for Bangor.
A late free-kick from former Bangor striker Gary Sharratt was enough to give
Abbey Villa a 1-0 victory over an unfamiliar Bangor side at Adams Park this evening.
Midfielder Mark Magennis had Bangor's best chance of the first half when his swerving strike from distance was parried onto the crossbar by the Villa keeper. Striker Glenn Upton and midfielder Andrew Rosbotham both came close for Bangor in the second half before Sharratt hit Villa's late winner.

Bangor will kick off the League season with an away trip to Armagh City on Saturday 8th August and will finish the season with an away trip to Ballymoney United on 24th April 2010. of the Coca Cola 3rd Division league table following a 4-1 triumph over visitors

The Sammy Mellon sponsored club responded positively to the news that Newtownards rivals 1st Bangor had taken up poll position, following a 2-1 win just 24 hours earlier on Monday (6th), that put them one point ahead of the Clandeboye Road side. Bangor teenage football sensation, Natasha Lee, currently leading goal scorer in the division, rattled in 4-in-a-row, to mark her third league hat trick in competitive games and put the Seasider two point clear with five game to go.

Colin McCurdy followed up last week's signings by adding talented

Versatile Youle, 24, certainly impressed in his 37 starts for the Seasiders last season. His performances were noted by both supporters clubs and by the rest of the squad where he came 3rd in the Player of the Year Award.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the untimely death of former player
Paddy McGreevy.
A central defender, Paddy began his footballing career at Bangor Swifts. Under the guidance of former Bangor player Spike O'Neill, Paddy helped the Swifts lift the Down Area League title and the McCaw Shield. Paddy became a regular in UUJ's 'B' Division side before moving to Bangor in the 1983/84 season. Bangor Football Club would like to pass on their deepest sympathies to the McGreevy family circle.

Bangor FC tonight completed the signing of two more players for the 2009/10
season.
Re-signing for another season is midfielder Mark Magennis. After suffering a terrible injury in January 2008, Mark made his return to full fitness last season and hit a spectacular goal in our final match of the 2008/09 against Ballymena United. Also joining Mark in the middle of the park next season will be Grant Dunlop. Dunlop, is no stranger to Clandeboye Park having spent several seasons at the club under the watchful eye of his father George who was in charge of the club at the time. An inspired performance by Natasha Lee (pictured) of Bangor Ladies, the ladies
section of Bangor Football Club, helped bank another three points for the Coca
Cola 3rd Division league leaders on Wednesday (1st) night.
A 6-3 win over neighbouring Abbey Villa at Dairy Hall in Newtownards, means the Seasiders have recorded their highest number of league points accumulated in any season in the NIWFA. The Bangor Academy teenager netted her second hat-trick in back to back league games, in a determined performance by the under-strength Seasiders. This result maintains the North Down’s clubs two-point advantage over Newtownards rivals 1st Bangor, with just six league games to go, and establishes the young Bangor forward as the most potent striker in the division with 16 goals scored this season so far.
