27th Apr 2009  CRUSADERS RES 0-2 BANGOR RES News
The Reserves travelled to Seaview on Saturday to play Crusaders in their final league game of the season. With a number of players unavailable due to injury, work commitments and first team call ups John Bailie and Andrew Massey started this game. Andrew Cleary also featured, having to rush down to Clandeboye for the senior game straight afterwards.

In glorious sunshine Bangor started the game in a very relaxed mood which allowed the more industrious Crusaders team a lot of possession in the Bangor half. A couple of rash challenges in and around the box gave the Crues a few chances from set pieces but they never troubled Sargeant in the Bangor goal.

From Bangor's first piece of good play they scored. Cleary got to the bye line and put in a fine cross which fell to McCormick. His shot was blocked but Kevin Coyle was on hand to hit home the rebound from 10 yards giving the keeper no chance.

The goal didn't change the pattern of play with Crusaders continuing to hold the upper hand without creating any chances with Bangor only showing in brief flashes the good football that had been evident in previous games. With the slight breeze at their backs Bangor opened the second half on the offensive putting the Crues under some pressure.

Coyle raced on to through balls twice to fire across goal but unfortunatley there was nobody running in at the back post. As the game progresses the Crues were offering less and less and on 60 minutes the game was over when Michael Hunter hit a 35 yard half volley into the top corner of the net to give Bangor a 2-0 lead - goal of the season!. Bangor were able to see out the remainder of the game with ease and could have added to their tally with Coyle and Sharratt coming close.

JB:- "It is always good to end the season with a win. The players who have been involved all season deserve a lot of credit for their workrate and attitude throughout the year. Results and performances were showing that a lot of the boys were just starting to find their feet at this level. They have been a tremendous bunch of lads to work with and hopefully two or three of them can push their way on to the senior squad. I would just like to thank Davy and Jason for all their help and assistance during the season - its been a rollercoaster of a season but one we have all enjoyed"

18th Apr 2009  NEWRY CITY 2-1 BANGOR News
A controversial last gasp goal direct from a corner kick denied Bangor a share of the spoils at a sunny Newry Showgrounds this afternoon.

Andy Morrow and Dean Youle both had efforts on goal cleared off the line before Richard Clarke gave Newry the lead on the half-hour. Newry held that lead until the 93rd minute when a perfectly struck lob from Andy Morrow gave Bangor an equaliser. However Newry provided a sting in the tail when a drilled Henderson corner from the right was adjudged to have crossed the goal line when Bangor keeper Ryan Brown caught the ball.

17th Apr 2009  BANGOR RES 3-0 GLENTORAN II News
The reserves put in arguably their best performance of the season on Thursday evening to comprehensively beat Glentoran at Clandeboye in their last home game of the season.

Glentoran opened brightly and forced Sargeant into a good early save but other than a 10 minute spell late in the half Bangor dominated possession and created the more clear cut chances. Michael Hunter twice drove over the bar from good positions and Gary Sharratt's shot from the edge of the box was straight at the keeper.

Glenn Hand and Gary Sharratt were working extremely hard up front with Hand in particular impressive. He was rewarded in the 40th minute for his industry when he scored the opener. From a Glentoran corner Bangor quickly broke with Kevin Coyle finding space on the right. He evaded a challenge and then played a glorious through ball to Hand who showed good speed and bravery to get to the ball before the on rushing keeper to lob over him and find the net.

Bangor started the second half very strongly and found themselves 2 up when Hand's through ball found Sharratt who easily beat the keeper from 10 yards. Soon after great work by Hand and Coyle on the right hand side saw Coyle cross to the back post where Aaron McKee was to slam home the third.

To Glentorans credit they kept pushing forward but the Bangor defence of Cleary, Lockhart, Boyd and Whitford weren't giving much away. With McKee, Mann and Hunter dominant in the middle Bangor were able to introduce their 3 subs and see the game out.

Team: Sargeant, Cleary, Whitford, Lockhart, Boyd, Mann, Coyle, McKee, Hand, Sharratt, Hunter Subs: Ritchie, McCormick,Graham, Morton, Youle

JB: "This was our best 90 mins of the season and has showed how far some of the young lads have progressed during the season. We dominated the game and could have won by more then the 3 goal margin though i am very satisfied with the performance. Everyone contributed and with the experienced heads of Lockhart, Cleary, Hand and McKee having a steadying influence it was very pleasing to see the performance of all the younger lads who have been with the reserves throughout the season and is just reward for the effort and committment they have given to myself, Jason and Davy over the season. Its just a pity that we will not be able to continue the work we started this season as I firmly believe that we had the nucleus of a very good squad of young players to work with. Whiteside and Boyd have already shown they are more than capable to step up and i'm sure there are a few more if given the chance."
