  31st Jan 2009  GLENTORAN v BANGOR News
Today's match at the Oval against Glentoran has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

A new date for this game has yet to be announced.

28th Jan 2009 INSTITUTE RES. 1-1 BANGOR RESERVES News
The Reserves made the long trek to Drumahoe to play Institute Reserves in the final group game of the George Wilson Cup last night.

With Chris Boyd and Stephen Whiteside both cup tied it was a very youthful Bangor side that made the trip with no less than 10 under 18s in their 15 man squad. The game started at a fast pace with neither side able to play much football on a very bumpy surface and play was very scrappy. There were a few anxious moments in the Bangor back line but fortunately when chances fell their way the Institute forwards were unable to find a way past Johnny Sargeant in the Bangor goal who made 2 excellent stops.

Bangor then enjoyed their best spell of tha half with Coyle, Tumelty and Mann all going close. Bangor took the lead in the 35th minute. Following good work by Mark Whitford and Ryan Mann, Tony Tumelty fired into the roof of the net from 12 yards. Tumelty then lost his footing as he was about to strike at goal as Bangor finished the half on the offensive.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first with neither team able to get a grip on the game. Midway through the half Institute hit the post from an acute angle as they searched for the equaliser however the Bangor defence was holding firm. McCormick then found himself through on goal but his attempted chip was stopped by the Institute keeper who looked to have handled outside the area, however the referee waved play on.

Institute equalised with 10 mins remaining when their forward reacted quickest in a goalmouth scramble to poke home from 7 yards. The game ended with 1-1 probably the correct result.

Best for Bangor were Sargeant and Drysdale.

Team: Sargeant, Drysdale, Whitford, Bailie, Morton, Mann, Coyle, Hunter, Tumelty, Youle, Holmes. Subs: McCormick, Bryson, Graham, Ritchie

JB's View:
"It was asking a lot of this young squad to make this journey in midweek and every one of them deserve an enormous amount of credit for their performance. It was tight game that I felt we could have went on to win after taking the lead though to give Institute their play in the second half was deserving of a draw. It was good to see Tony Tumelty on the scoresheet again. His work rate is phenomenal and he is now starting to add goals to his performances. Johnny Sargeant also had his best game to date and Mark Drysdale had another good game at right back. A special mention has to be given to Bradley Morton who at 16 showed great maturity in his display at center half which augurs well for the future."

The Reserves are at home to Institute this Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
