24th Nov 2008 DEFEAT FOR THE RESERVES News
Bangor Reserves suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to bottom of the table Dungannon Swifts Reserves at Stangmore Park on Saturday.

Ryan Tumelty scored the Bangor goal in a match that was dominated for long periods by the Bangor team. Dungannon scored their winner in the 80th minute when a mis-hit shot looped over the head of a helpless Ryan Brown.

JB's View:
"To be honest this is the lowest point of the season. In a game where our general play and movement was very good we failed to capitalise on a number of good goalscoring opportunities and were then caught with 2 sucker punches at the back. We had 75% of the play and 90% of the chances but we end up losing but the players have to learn that goals win matches. I firmly believe if we had taken one of our chances whilst it was 1-1 we would have went on and won 4 or 5 which wouldn't have been an injustice on our performance. I am gutted for the players because they worked hard with no end result. There were good performances from Ryan Tumelty and Kevin Coyle on the flanks. Their pace and trickery caused the Dungannon defence problems all afternoon."

GEORGE WILSON CUP
CRUSADERS RESERVES 0-0 BANGOR RESERVES
Ryan Brown made his return in the goal-less draw with Crusaders on Wednesday night at Seaview. With the first team also in action it was a very youthful Bangor team who took to the field with nine under 18s involved. There were very few chances created although the more experienced Crusaders team certainly held the upper hand throughout this game but the whole Bangor team worked very hard to restrict them. Ryan Brown commanded his area very well and the one time he was beaten Craig Holmes was there to make a great goal line clearance from Gary Smyth's towering header.

In the second half Bangor had a couple of 20 yard efforts from Michael Hunter and Gary Sharratt that went close and near the end Brown made a good stop low to his right to stop an eighteen yard drive from Caddell. The game ended goaless with Bangor still in with a shout of qualifying from their group although they do need to win both games against Distillery and Institute to have a chance.

JB's View:
"The whole team worked very hard for each other tonight. Defensively we were very good. Johnny Rosson and Andy Massey were both very strong at the center of the defence and Mark Drysdale continues to excel in the sweeper role.  Anything that got by these three was dealt with comfortably by the commanding Ryan Brown. Ryan Mann also put in a good shift in the middle of the park as did Craig Holmes on the left. It was also good to see Ryan Tumelty get through 70 minutes after his recent injury problems."

7th Nov 2008 GLENAVON RESERVES 4-2 BANGOR RESERVES News
The Reserves travelled to Lurgan on Wednesday evening to take on Glenavon Reserves. A very experienced Glenavon side that featured a number of first team fringe players, including Scates, McCann, McMahon, Liggett, Murray and Haughey started the game at a very fast pace and their slick passing and movement was causing Bangor all sorts of problems for the opening 10 minutes.

Johnny Sargeant was called into early action and had to make a smart save from Liggett. Despite being on the back foot Bangor almost took the lead in the 15th minute when Mark Magennis found Jim McMenamin at the back post with a beautifully flighted free kick. McMenamin watched in despair as Buchanan made a wonderful save from his close range volley. Within 30 secs Bangor were behind when from this Glenavon broke and Eamon Murray waltzed past a couple of defenders before releasing Liggett to slot past Sargeant from 10 yards. Glenavon continued to be on top and it was no surprise when they quickly added a second after 20 minutes. Liggett gathered the ball some 20 yards from goal and smashed the ball past Sargeant giving him no chance.

At this point Bangor changed their shape and finally began to get to grips with the Glenavon midfield. Michael Hunter fired wide from a Magennis corner and then following a mistake in the Glenavon back line Dean McCormick, who has returned home from Stoke and is still getting back to fitness, pounced to score from 8 yards to get Bangor back into the game.

Bangor started the second half on top and took the game to Glenavon. The midfield four of Magennis, Hunter, Mann and Sharratt were enjoying more of the play and were starting to link up well with McDowell and McCormick. On 55 minutes Bangor were level when Drysdale did brilliantly to get to the byline before delivering a great cross to the back post where Mann arrived late to volley home the equaliser from 8 yards.

At this stage it looked as though Bangor would go on and win the game. McMenamin was inches wide with a header and then Tony Tumelty flashed a 25 yard drive just past the post. Bangor then lost McMenamin in the 75th minute to a tight hamstring and Glenavon took immediate advantage by once again going in front in the 81st minute with a good close range finish by McMahon. Bangor heads dropped and Glenavon added a fourth with a few minutes remaining.
Team: Sargeant; Drysdale, Holmes, McMenamin (Graham 75), Rosson; Sharratt (Morton 85), Hunter, Mann, Magennis; McDowell, McCormick (T Tumelty 60). Subs: Coyle, Bryson (not used)

JB's View
"Apart from the opening 20 minutes when Glenavon completley tore us apart i have nothing but praise for the team. They worked hard and got themselves back into the game. When asked at half time to step up they did that and fully deserved their equaliser with a well taken goal and then were unfortunate with a couple of efforts just off target. It was disappointing to concede too late goals but taking the positives from this game we had 10 under 18's in our squad of 16 tonight playing against some very experienced players. They competed very well and will have learned a lot from the experience and this will help them develop and mature as players. Mark Drysdale and Michael Hunter continue to impress whilst there were other good performances from McMenamin and Rosson."

3rd Nov 2008 BANGOR RESERVES v LOUGHGALL News
The Reserves entertained Loughgall at Clandeboye Park on Saturday in the first round of the Intermediate Cup.

The game started at a very fast pace with Loughgall hitting the bar after 3 minutes. Bangor soaked up the early pressure and began to assert themselves on the game. Dean McCormick, who had a good game at centre forward forced the Marc Robinson into a poor clearance that fell to Paul McDowell some 30 yards from goal, however Robinson redeemed himself by racing back to his goal to collect McDowells effort.

Loughgall were enjoying a large share of the possession, but on 35 minutes Johnny Tumelty found himself through on goal, but his lobbed effort went the wrong side of the bar. That miss proved to be a costly one for Bangor, as on 40 minutes Loughgall took the lead. Burrows found space inside the box and forced Doherty into a good save but then got lucky as the ball rebounded straight back to him to score from 8 yards.

The second half was similar to the first, with Loughgall holding the upper hand. Doherty made a couple of good stops but was beaten again in the 60th minute when Dean Smith scored from 10 yards. The closest Bangor came to scoring was in the 70th minute when a great crossfield pass from Timmy Ritchie found McDowell on the right side of the area and his first time half volley found the side netting.

Team: Doherty;Drysdale, Massey (Graham 65mins), Rosson; Mann, Magennis, Hunter, Ritchie; McDowell,McCormick (Coyle 75mins), J Tumelty (T Tumelty 60 mins).
Subs not used: Sargeant, Holmes

JB's View
"Bangor lost this cup tie but were by no means disgraced against the holders. Everyone worked hard for the team and now they must look to take this attitude and level of committment into their league games coming up. It was a pleasing performance and one with a lot of positives. Doherty, Drysdale and Hunter were the pick of the Bangor team."

The Reserves play Glenavon at Mourneview Park on Wednesday night with a 7:45 ko
