22nd Sept 2008 RESERVES REPORT News
Bangor Reserves travelled to Coleraine on Saturday to face a strengthened Coleraine team.

Bangor started the game well with Brotherston and McDowell both going close in the opening 20 minutes. Kevin Coyle was finding good positions on the right hand side and was causing the Coleraine full-back problems with his pace. However Bangor failed to capitalise on this bright opening and were punished when Coleraine scored from their first shot on goal. Worse was to follow as Coleraine added a second on 35 minutes when a cross from the right was headed home. Cairduff fired a free kick wide as Bangor fought hard to get back into the game.

The second half got off to the worst possible start when Dougherty came to collect a routine cross unchallenged and mis judged the flight of the ball to allow the Coleraine forward the simple task of heading into the empty net from 5 yards to put the game beyond Bangor. Sharratt, Tumelty and Ritchie were all introduced immediately and to their credit all made a difference, adding an urgency that maybe had been lacking. Bangor were working hard to get some consolation from the game and were rewarded when McDowell smashed home a 12 yard volley with 15 minutes left to play. Andy Massey then had a shot cleared off the line and John Tumelty hit a shot just past the left hand post.
FINAL SCORE: COLERAINE RES. 3-1 BANGOR RES.

"It was another disappointing result for the young Reserve team. However there were a lot of positives to be taken from the game, especially the attitude they showed at 3-0 down. The most pleasing aspect though was the performance of Paul McDowell who looked a lot sharper than of late and showed that he still knows where the net is."
(J.B.)

The Reserves are due to play the Northern Ireland Fire Service Team in a friendly at Clandeboye Park on Wednesday evening.

15th Sept 2008 RESERVES REPORT News
Bangor Reserves were at home to high flying Lisburn Distillery Seconds on Saturday - a team who had scored twenty goals in their last 4 games.

Bangor started brightly with Paul McDowell firing just wide of the target from 18 yards, but the Whites took the lead with their first attack when a long ball caught the Bangor defence square allowing Ryan Evans to run through to score. Bangor were certainly holding their own and their cause looked to have been made better when Patton was sent off after 25minutes for kicking out at Drysdale.

Bangor had a lot of possession for the remainder of the half, but were unable to test the Distillery 'keeper. The closest Bangor came to an equaliser was when Sharratt created a chance for Tumelty who saw his shot blocked by a defender. Just on the stroke of half time Tumelty turned his marker inside the box but dragged his shot wide.

The second half was a similar story with Bangor having a lot of possession but didn't have that cutting edge in the final third. In fact the best chance of the half fell to the Whites when Sergeant made a great save from Coolings free kick and was then relieved to see the rebound blasted off the post. Distillery defended very well and restricted Bangor to a few long range efforts.

FINAL SCORE: Bangor Reserves 0-1 Lisburn Distillery 2nds

Best for Bangor: Central Midfielders Michael Hunter and Aaron McKee.

The Reserves travel to Coleraine this Saturday hoping to get back into winning ways. Kick Off is 2pm
