 BANGOR F.C. - MATCH REPORT

LISB. DISTILLERY 2nds 0 - 4 BANGOR

INTERMEDIATE CUP ROUND 1
Match Report by Neil Watson
Saturday 4th November 2006

DistilleryBangor progressed into the 2nd round of the Intermediate Cup with a comfortable 4 nil victory over Lisburn Distillery 2nds. Andy Morrow scored four second half goals to mark a superb individual performance from the captain in a game which threatened to be remembered for some heroics by the Whites’ keeper – Phillip Matthews.

The home side should have taken the lead after only 6 minutes but Andy Forsythe spurned a good chance from 10 yards, sending his right-footed shot just wide of the left post.

Minutes later, Lisburn Distillery were denied by the woodwork. Andrew Kilmartin floated a free kick into the Bangor box where Coates found himself unmarked but fortunately for Bangor, the midfielder’s header cannoned off the upright before being cleared.

Phillip Matthews produced a breathtaking reaction save to deny Andy Forsythe after 15 minutes. Brian Hylands’ long throw from the left was flicked on towards Forsythe in the 6-yard area. The winger headed the ball goalwards but somehow Matthews managed to keep the ball out from point blank range.

After 25 minutes, it was the turn of Morrow and Camlin to test Matthews’ goalkeeping abilities. Poor defending from the Whites saw the ball fall to Andy Morrow who volleyed goalwards from 16 yards out. Matthews did well to beat the ball away before steadying himself well to hold onto Camlin’s header from the rebound.

2 minutes later, Matthews again denied Kenny Camlin. The bustling Bangor forward latched onto Morrow’s flick before thundering a shot from 12 yards which Matthews blocked well.

Bangor must have thought their luck was out after 37 minutes when Matthews twice denied the home side. The former-Bangor stopper saved Morrow’s glancing header from a Munn free kick before denying David Irvine from 8 yards after Camlin had made himself room on the left to cross.

Distillery 2nds were unfortunate not to open the scoring on the stroke of half-time. The woodwork again denied the visitors as Cooling’s dipping 30-yard free kick crashed off the crossbar before bouncing clear.

Half-time: 0 – 0

Bangor finally got the goal they deserved 13 minutes into the second half. Kenny Camlin gathered Irvine’s pass before laying the ball off to Morrow. The Bangor captain turned his defender before feigning to shoot and lifting the ball past the helpless Matthews to bring up the forward’s 50th goal for the Club.

3 minutes later, Brian Hylands picked out Kenny Camlin with a pass over the top of the Distillery defence. Camlin held off the attention of a defender but saw his 16 yard shot pushed wide by Matthews. From the resultant corner, Munn headed the cross back across goal where Andy Morrow acrobatically hit the ball high into the net.

Andy Morrow sealed his hat trick after 75 minutes. John Bailie played a delightful ball for Morrow who beat the Distillery offside trap. Morrow held off the challenge of a defender before superbly slotting the ball across Matthews from 16 yards and into the net.

A minute later, Morrow found himself on the score sheet again. Billy Youle, who had replaced Stuart Nelson, saw his shot fall into the path of Morrow who turned and thumped his effort past Phillip Matthews to mark a superb performance.
