ARDS RETURN TO CLANDEBOYE

Ards will be back at Clandeboye
Bangor FC are pleased to announce that they have entered into a 3
year agreement with near neighbours Ards FC to share
Clandeboye
Park.
Bangor FC Treasurer, Peter Vannucci, stated
“This is a good arrangement for both Clubs. In our case, our
previous tenants, Bangor Rangers, had intimated that they would be
moving on to pastures new, and this would have left Clandeboye
vacant for 50% of the season.
In Ards case, their deal with Ballyclare was coming to an end
and they were having to secure playing facilities for a further
period while plans for their own ground in Newtownards were
progressing.
From a sporting point of view, I believe it is also the right
decision as it means the Ards fans have less to travel to follow
their team and local football fans will be guaranteed Championship
football in
Bangor on almost every Saturday of
the season."
The deal commences on 1 August 2012 and it is hoped that the next 3
years bring success to both Clubs.

Bangor fought back from a goal down to take a well deserved point
against Larne at Clandeboye Park this afternoon. Ryan Murray
scrambled home the equaliser after excellent work from Chris
Middleton on the right. Debut defender Kevin
Bradley was dismissed shortly after the equaliser and both
managers were sent to the stands in a bad tempered finish to the
game.

FRANKIE SAYS

FRANKIE SAYS
FRANKIE SAYS
Well it's been a while since my last contribution to
the web .....apologies ! It's been a real
rollercoaster time from the heights of a memorable
Steel and Sons victory to the depths of a defeat to
Ards and being dumped out if two cups. After the
game on Christmas Eve I warned the players of
complacency and implored them to show
professionalism and win games.....this has not
happened.
I apologise, as recent performances were just not
good enough. Some players were not doing the basics.
I take full responsibility for this and because of
this I had to go and get some new players. If a
player does not buy into my gameplan then I don't
want him at the club. Some players will be moved on
and that is the cut and thrust of football at our
level. Young Glenholmes from DC has
come in, Chris Middleton from
Scotland has shown pace up front. I've worked
closely with Tommy Breslin to bring in 2 players
K Bradley and D Stuart
a defender and an attacker. Barring a glitch in
paperwork they should be available on Saturday. I've
also signed Peter Mooney from
Aquinas a young defender with good potential.
Marc
Whitford a left back has returned to the club. A
tough tackling "Ducky-like" defender. I have also
signed Andy Long back from Carrick.
We ironed out our differences and I'm delighted to
have a proven quality player back. He can't wait to
don the Seagull shirt again. I'm also looking at
another top defender and it's a case of watch this
space. So as you can imagine having signed a good
few players other lads will be going on loan and
released. Like i said to the lads at training, we
have 12 cup finals to go. Win all our games and we
are chasing promotion. As the other teams are due
bad patches like our recent run of defeats. It's in
our own destiny.
I would like to thank the board as I've recently
signed a contract up untill May 2013. So, myself and
Gerard are delighted along with Skeedo, Sam and Mo
to be at the helm at Bangor. I honestly consider it
an honour to manage the Seasiders. My wife would
verify the pain and anxiety I have been through
these last few weeks after our poor cup games. 'It's
only a game' she says but you guys know it's much
more than that. I can see when I look at the crowd
and hear them that they are frustrated and hurting
as well. It's a building process and we will
succeed. Players will shape up or ship out.
As you can read it's been hectic I'm not long back
from speaking with Tommy Breslin (Cliftonville) and Colin Telford
(Carrick) to get the new recruits sorted. A
manager's life never stops. I warned the players
that changes would happen and I'm a man of my
word.....I'm raging. We won't now be able to play
against a Premiership team this season but in the
end after talking to one of my colleague at work
(himself a international Basketball coach) he
explained that the players can now focus on one goal
i.e. league wins. No excuses
Like I said to the players teamwork and honest
endeavour will reap rewards Hope that keeps you
posted.

Bangor crashed out of the JJB Sports Irish Cup, losing 4-2 at home to a
lively Ballymoney United side on Saturday afternoon.
The Seasiders looked to be on edge straight from the kick-off
- Ballymoney striker Mark Gillen's movement was causing the
Bangor defence all sorts of problems. Bangor fell behind in the
7th minute - Marc Whitford's attempt at cutting out a cross
ended in disaster as the defender managed to head powerfully
into the corner of his own net. Ballymoney doubled their lead in
the 20th minute - Francis McKenna's 25 yard free kick found a
way through the Bangor wall and took a wicked bobble in the
goalmouth to fly over Paul Cairnduff's
outstretched arms and into the net.
Bangor rallied before half-time and Gareth McLaughlin
gave the Seasiders a lifeline, squeezing in a shot from a tight
angle on 38 minutes. The Bangor defence were caught sleeping
when Liam Kearney was given time and space to smash home
Ballymoney's third. Gareth McLaughlin brought
it back to 3-2 with a stunning strike on 78 minutes to give
Bangor some hope. A full time drew closer, Bangor threw men
forward and squandered several great chances to draw level.
Bangor were caught out at the back again when Ian Christie
struck Ballymoney's fourth in injury time to seal his side's
victory.

Bangor were edged out of the Intermediate Cup on penalties after a scoreless
draw with Warrenpoint Town at Clandeboye Park this afternoon.
In a scrappy encounter, neither side found any cutting edge
in front of goal and it was no real surprise to see the game
ending up in extra time. Warrenpoint failed to press home their
numerical advantage in the second half after Bangor defender
Gareth Beattie was given his marching orders after 52 minutes.
Bangor got off to a great start in the shootout, leading 1-0
after the first round of takes. However subsequent misses from
Ben Browne and Andy Morrow proved costly as Warrenpoint scored
all 4 of their remaining spot kicks.

Bangor produced a lacklustre display in the North Down derby at Dixon Park on
Saturday afternoon.
It was all too easy for Ards who dominated proceedings
right from the off. David Cully scored the Ards opener on 38
minutes, latching on to a loose Gareth Beattie header.
Nathan McConnell later came off the bench to finish off a well
worked move in the 90th minute to seal a comfortable win for

A trumphant Bangor lifted the Paddy Power Steel & Sons Cup this afternoon,
defeating Larne 2-1 in front of a bumper crowd at Seaview. With the kick
off delayed 15 minutes due to crowd congestion, it was Larne who had much the
better of the opening spell. However, as Bangor began to settle, Ben
Browne fizzed a low shot just inches wide of the right hand post.
Ryan Murray also forced two saves from the Larne 'keeper, once with
free header and another with a strike from distance.
The opening goal came on 23 minutes when the lively
Gareth McLaughlin cut in from the right and struck a
low shot which deflected off the unfortunate Niall McAllister
and into the Larne net.
Bangor's second goal came on 35 minutes. A well worked
Glenn Bowers free-kick made room for captain
Garth Scates who had time and space to drive a
shot past David Henry in the Larne goal.
The expected Larne onslaught in the second half never
arrived, and Bangor looked to be in full control. However,
Gareth Beattie's mis-timed challenge on Allen Reid after 73
minutes saw Larne awarded a penalty kick
which was converted by former Seasider Marc Brown. Larne rallied
in the closing stages, but struggled to create any meaningful
chances.
The Seasiders efforts were not to be undone and the sound of
the final whistle sparked jubilant scenes amongst Bangor
players, supporters and officials.

A 90th minute strike from Ben Browne salvaged a point for Bangor
in an untidy performance against Loughgall at Clandeboye Park
this afternoon.
An unmarked Stephen Doyle fired Loughgall ahead after 13
minutes, but Bangor were swift to respond with a Dwaine Beattie
header from a long clearance from Paul Cairnduff a couple of
minutes later. Slack Bangor defending on a Dale Malone corner
kick allowed free scoring John Guy to head in Loughgall's second on 37
minutes.
The introduction of Scates and Murray at half time breathed some
new life into the Bangor attack, but the Seasiders had to wait
until the 90 minute to find an equaliser - Ben Browne
found space on the edge of the area to lash home a volley
through a crowd of players to rescue a point for Bangor.

Bangor made it through to the next stage of the

Clandeboye Park this afternoon.
After a largely uninspiring first half, Ben Browne
latched on to a defensive error to stroke the ball into an
unguarded net just before the break. Sirocco caused Bangor some
problems in the second half and their efforts were rewarded in
the 69th minute when former Welders front man Chris
Towell
evaded several challenges to coolly slot the ball past Paul
Cairnduff for the equaliser. Sirocco were level for only a

Gerard Crossley found Ben Browne who calmly

Bangor squandered a two goal lead in a costly 2-2 draw
with Glebe Rangers at the Riada Stadium this afternoon.
Midfielder Ben Browne was the star of the
first half, adding two more well finished goals to his
impressive tally this season. The Seasiders looked comfortable
with their two goal lead at the break.
Browne however was forced to retire during the break and his
replacement Jonathan Bowers lasted less than 10
minutes on the pitch - shown a straight red in controversial
circumstances. 10-man Bangor defended resolutely until a slip
from Gareth Beattie in the 65th minute gave Turner an easy
chance to slot home and get Glebe back into the game. Bangor
kept Glebe at arms length and substitute Dwayne Beattie had a glorious chance
in the 80th minute to seal a victory, but could only fire his
shot straight at the 'keeper when clean through.
Glebe's equaliser came in the 89th minute when a moment
of madness from Paul Cairnduff lead to the
'keeper's instant dismissal. Glebe were awarded a penalty as a
result, and despite a valiant effort from Brian Hylands in the
Bangor goal, Tommy Elder's penalty still found the back of the
net.
Suspensions and injuries to key players could now be a major
factor as the Seasiders prepare for Tuesday's North Down derby
clash with Ards at Clandeboye Park.

FINALLY!
SHANKILL UNITED 1-3 BANGOR (AET)
Bangor made it through to the 2011 PaddyPower.com Steel &
Sons Cup Final with a 3-1 extra-time victory over Shankill
United at Seaview on Friday evening.
Bangor looked uneasy on the artificial surface in the first
half and were a goal down within 5 minutes. Paul McCann put Shankill
ahead when he reacted quickest to a header which had rebounded off the
Bangor upright.
Shankill were more than comfortable with their lead in the first
half and deservedly went in 1-0 ahead at the break.
Bangor began to find their stride in the second half, but had
to wait until the 88th minute for an equaliser. Captain
Garth Scates neatly flicked a
Brian Hylands through-ball into the top corner of the
net to take the game into extra time.
Ben Browne fired Bangor into the lead early
in the first period of extra-time when he latched on to a loose
ball in the area and drill a low shot into the bottom right hand
corner of the Shankill net. Browne sealed the
victory for the Seasiders in the second period of extra-time
when his 35 yard volley deflected off a Shankill defender and
looped into the net.
Bangor will now face Larne in the 2011 PaddyPower.com Steel &

he and his backroom staff have been left gutted by the leg
injury sustained by defender Johnny Watterson
in today's match against Newry City.
"This is a massive loss for Bangor. The lad has broken his
leg and it has marred a fantastic win against the unbeaten
league leaders. Gerard, Mo, Sam, Skeedo and myself are all
absolutely gutted - all our thoughts are with him tonight."
"As for game? We simply won the battle. Our tempo was spot
on. We had some great finishes. First from Rafferty, a good
penalty from our captain and then a brilliant header from young
Beattie. But to be honest my heart is with 'Ducky'. This is a
massive loss for Bangor."
On behalf of all the players, supporters and officials of
Bangor Football Club, we would like to take this opportunity to
wish Johnny a very speedy recovery. It hopefully won't be too
long before he's back on the field in Bangor colours.

Bangor move up to third place in the Belfast Telegraph Championship 1
Table with an impressive 3-2 home win over League leaders Newry City.
Bangor fell behind to a hotly disputed goal from Daniel Hughes
after 15 minutes - the Seasiders defence were looking for an
offside decision that never came. Bangor weren't behind for too
long, as striker Gary Rafferty equalised with a
low shot into the left hand corner of the net just a couple of
minutes later. Rafferty was at the centre of a controversial
incident on 26 minutes when he was floored in the penalty area.
The incident was spotted by the Referee's Assistant - Newry
defender Ricky Copeland was dismissed and Bangor captain Garth Scates
made no mistake from the resultant penalty.
HALF-TIME - Bangor 2-1 Newry City
Bangor's lead lasted only until the 47th minute when a rash
challenge in the penalty area gifted Newry a spot kick from
which James Hand made no mistake. Bangor defender Jonny
Watterson was stretchered off midway through the second
half with what has tonight been confirmed as a leg fracture - we
wish him a speedy recovery. The winning goal came from the
head of substitute Dwayne Beattie - Dwayne nodded in an
inch perfect Gareth McLaughlin cross from the
right wing.

A first half brace from defender Leon Carters was
enough to give
Ballinamallard the edge in this closely fought encounter at
Clandeboye Park on Saturday afternoon. Carters prodded in a
cross from the left to give Ballinamallard the lead after 14
minutes and was on hand again just before half time to poke
the ball over the line following a mix up in the Bangor
defence. Andy Morrow had brought the sides level after 18
minutes, getting the final touch to a Dean Youle follow up
on a fumbled Gareth McLaughlin free kick.
The Seasiders pressed for an equaliser in the second half
without success - substitutes Dwayne Beattie and Jonathan Bowers
both went close for Bangor.

I haven't been writing as much lately - I do
apologise to you all! Naturally, I'm quite delighted with
the recent run of results, however I'm still reeling a bit
from from the Loughall game. It was a game that we could
have got something from. The Tobermore v Newry result
further rubber stamps the view that everyone can take points
of you. In saying that, if before the season someone had
told me that we would only be beaten once in 2 months I
would be delighted.
Saturday's match against Banbridge Town was
a pleasing one. We are finally starting to score goals again. I
looked at the Daily Mirror stats and we now have 3 players in it
- last year we had none! It was great for Ben
Browne to score three, he is playing some excellent
stuff. Testament to the lad in that his performances are keeping
our club captain out of the side.
We landed a difficult tie with Glebe Rangers
in the Steel & Sons Cup however I'm delighted that it will be
at home. I'm looking forward to the Ballymena United
game as we can ascertain how far off we are in a real game
against Premiership opposition
My main concern is for this Saturday and getting a result at
my old stomping ground in Larne. They are
flying at the minute and Paul Millar will have them ready for
the Seasiders.
I saw one of Darran's pictures from last Saturday's game - a
great photo of Dean Youle scoring but the background picture of
the supporters celebrating really captures what it means to
those people too - even in the mizzling rain. A big thanks to
Darran and the new video guy, both of whom are doing a great
job.
I really can't believe that I've been back at Bangor for a
whole year this month. I must be getting old!

STAKEHOLDERS MEETING
STAKEHOLDERS MEETING
Bangor FC are holding a Stakeholders Meeting on
Tuesday, 4 October 2011 at 7:30 pm in the Viewing
Lounge at Clandeboye Park. The Board of Directors have
realised that standards at the Club could be improved in a
lot of areas and are looking for volunteers to help the
Club.
Club Director, Peter Vannucci stated “It is getting more and
more difficult to run a Football Club and my fellow
Directors have realised that we need more hands on board,
excuse the pun. The current Board is working flat out to
keep things running smoothly, whilst at the same time
planning future developments. Unfortunately, there are just
not enough hours in the day and the Club just do not have
the resources to employ the necessary staff to do all the
work that requires doing.
Assistance is required in the following general areas – fund
raising, media, ground maintenance, match day organisation
and liaison between the various teams of the club.
Hopefully a good number of individuals with the best
interests of the club at heart will turn up for a short
presentation and a chat over a cup of tea. The Club have
prepared a list of numerous activities that could be
undertaken to improve the club and are open to other
constructive suggestions, provide those making the
suggestions do not expect someone else to carry them out..
Hopefully at the end of the evening, volunteers will have
come forward to help the club progress.”

BANGOR 1-0 CRUSADERS RESERVES (AET)
Bangor progressed safely into the last eight of the Steel &
Sons Cup with a narrow 1-0 extra-time victory over Crusader
Reserves at Clandeboye Park on Saturday afternoon. With
chances at a premium throughout, the game finished scoreless
after 90 minutes. Bangor struggled to break down a strong
Crusaders defence even after the dismissal of key Crusaders
midfielder Matthew Hazley.
Just as the game looked to be heading for penalty kicks,
substitute Gary Rafferty popped up to sweep
in Gareth McLaughlin's fine pull back from
the bye-line - there were just 2 seconds remaining on the

defeat to Loughgall at Lakeview Park this afternoon. Bangor were 1-0 down
within 10
minutes, the unfortunate Marc O'Gormley heading into his own
net past the stranded Dean Justin. Stephen Doyle made it 2-0
for Loughgall with virtually the last kick of the first
half.
Bangor's injury woes deepened further, with Johnny
Watterson hobbling off just moments into the second half.
Loughgall took full advantage, adding two more second half goals. Bangor's best chance of the game fell to
Glenn Bowers whose second half effort spun agonisingly over
Marc Robinson in the second half, just as Bangor seemd to be

SWEET SIXTEEN
H&W WELDERS 1-2 BANGOR
Bangor made it safely through to the last 16 of the Steel &
Sons Cup, with a 2-1 win over holders H&W Welders at
Tillysburn on Saturday afternoon.
Ben Browne was the hero of the day,
first bending in a low 20 yard free-kick and then glancing
in a Gareth McLaughlin corner-kick to give the Seasiders a
two goal lead at the break. Bangor 'keeper Paul Cairnduff
was rarely troubled in the second half, but poor marking in
the 85th minute allowed Ryan Harvey to pull one back for the
Welders. Former Bangor striker Barry Bloomer then squandered
a glorious chance to level it for the Welder in a tense
closing 5 minuutes.

RYAN MANN - STRETCHERED OFF
FRANKIE SAYS
Unfortunately the rumours are correct, Ryan Murray
has broken a metatarsal, which rules him out for the next 6
weeks. This will be a massive loss to the team. He had
started so brightly - we wish him a speedy recovery. Ryan
Mann, our tenacious midfield player also received a
very heavy blow to the knee. He is in serious pain but
x-rays revealed no break but there is some ligament damage. It is difficult to assess the extent
of the damage at this stage. Goalkeeper Paul Cairnduff
also has a suspected broken toe.
As for the game itself, we missed a glorious
chance to win the game, I counted 3 brilliant chances to
score the second all important goal. After the game, Harry
McConkey told me how delighted he was to come to Clandeboye
and get a point. The changing room afterwards was like a
morgue.
I have very high standards and told them that it was not
good in failing to gain all 3 points after dominating the
second half so well. The Dergview keeper was inspired and
saved on numerous occasions. The Dergview penalty was
clearly an infringement outside the box, and as angry as I
was with the decision, I fully admired the referee when
after the game he admitted that he had had a poor game. We
all have bad days, and over the season we will get the rub
of the green. I am a believer at looking at the cause of
the decision, namely a very silly and naive challenge on a
player who was running towards the bye line. The player in
question knows his mistake but we all rally round and stick
by each other, as if you remember the same player saved us
against the Welders with a last ditch tackle.
With Newry winning on Sunday, we are 5 points off the
leaders but we have a game in hand. Jim Steed always looks
at the positives and reminded me that we are still unbeaten.
The Welders game will be a tough one. We are down a few
faces and the Welders won't want to be beaten again at home.
We will start as the underdogs but I am very confident
that we can produce a good account of ourselves and try and
progress in the illustrious Steel and Sons cup
3rd September 2011 BANGOR
v DERGVIEW

MORROW SCORES
BANGOR 1-1 DERGVIEW
Bangor may have continued their undefeated start to the
season, but will ultimately be disappointed at not taking
three points from this rough and tumble encounter with
Dergview at Clandeboye Park this afternoon.
Andy Morrow continued his fine run of form when he opened
the scoring for the Seasiders in the 33rd minute. However
Bangor's lead was short-lived as Ryan Campbell levelled the
scores with a controversial penalty kick five minutes before
half time.
Bangor dominated for long spells in the second half in a
high tempo second half, but failed to find a way past the
Dergview keeper McCusker.

DEADLINE DAY

NEW SIGNINGS
FRANKIE SAYS...
We have signed an exciting young talent Deaglan
Bunting. A fomer Northern Ireland youth
international, he was previously on the books of Glasgow
Celtic. I know Deaglan from schoolboy football and he is a
terrific player, he plays up front and will certainly add
something extra to our squad. He was blighted with a serious
back condition but underwent very dangerous surgery to
rectify the problem. He is still recovering but is in light
training. He is a technically gifted player who has an eye
for goal, I hope to see him in a Bangor shirt come October/
November.
Andrew Massey has also signed for us! A
wealth of experience and due to family and work commitments
he has agreed to be a squad player and help us if and when
required. I played with Andy whilst at Bangor and he is a
formidable centre back. I'm delighted to get the two boys
sorted.
Thanks must go to Jim Steed our Club Secretary who is a
fantastic aid to me and our club.
